So a few months ago I went into an Andy Gibb-y fugue state after spending too many hours scanning old notebook pages to post on the (retro)blog. Despite all that effort, I barely posted any of those pages. Why? Well, I discovered–too late, I’m afraid–that none of the pages were particularly compelling. Many were either illegible or otherwise unintelligible.
So I scrapped them in favor of a new/old twist on the original (retro)blog format: Posting not journal entries, but creative writing straight from my middle and high school Language Arts classes. Oh yes, I’ve got a treasure trove of unintentionally hilarious poetry, essays, book reports and other juvenilia. And you will see it all in its unedited, misspelled, grammatically incorrect glory. Whee!
To give you an idea of what’s in store, here’s first page of “Life Is Tough” a play I co-wrote with my best friend in eighth grade that pays a very, very heavy debt to John Hughes. It’s worth reading for the ridiculous list of characters’ names alone. In a shameless example of typecasting, I assigned myself the role of Jules, the quippy, sarcastic one. (Come back on Monday for page 2.)
