Fifth (and Final) Book Secrets…Revealed!

I’ve taken a cue from STAR magazine coverlines.

It’s the last Friday of 2007. And I’m marking the occasion by telling you what I can about the JD5, and how YOU, YES, YOU, the faithful readers of the (retro)blog can get your name in the acknowledgments page.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m devoting 2008 to writing the fifth and final Jessica Darling book. I’ve spent the last four months or so researching and pre-writing JD5, and feel I’m finally ready to spend six hours a day in front of my laptop getting it out of my brain and onto the page. Three things I can tell you about this book:

1. It’s about Jessica.
2. It’s about Marcus.
3. It’s about an airport.

That’s about all I can say here.

However…

You’ve probably noticed how most books include an Acknowledgments page in which the author thanks everyone who helped her throughout the writing process. If you are interested in helping me, AND seeing your name on that page, AND finding out a teensy bit more about what happens in the final book, email me with JD5 as the subject before January 1st, 2008. (If I need more help, I’ll extend the deadline.)

In other non-JD5 news, a certain loved one and I positively rocked “We Built This City” (Starship). And I watched the first disc of the My So-Called Life box set last night and realized that even though I thought I had seen a lot of MSCL episodes, I haven’t seen many at all. In fact, the only episode I know very well is the one when Jordan Catalano has to take over for Rayanne when she chokes on “I Wanna Be Sedated.” I missed this show the first time around because I was in college and we didn’t get decent TV reception in our dorm rooms. (How unthinkable and barabaric, right?) MSCL is, of course, fantastic. Angela Chase and Jessica Darling are certainly two of a kind, as would be Jordan and Marcus if the former had a brain cell that worked for purposes other than leaning and hotness.

(Incidentally, MSCL on DVD was put out by the same company that also released two prematurely canceled Apatow gems, Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks, both of which I did watch when they originally aired. The latter, of course, is maybe the most perfect series ever, despite the semi-ridiculous episode when the Seth Rogan character finds out his girlfriend is a she-male. The final episode? When James Franco as Daniel is playing D&D with the Geeks and insists on being Carlos the Dwarf? Oh man. Oh maaaaaaaaaan. It doesn’t get any better.)
