The (retro)blog is still on vacation.

However, I want to congratulate M.T. Anderson for winning the National Book Award for Young People’s literature with his novel, The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing: Traitor to the Nation. He is one of my favorite authors, and if you haven’t already read his books, you should.

Words like “brilliant” are thrown around too often, but it fits Anderson. His books are unlike any I’ve ever read, and each one is a genre-busting tour de force in its own unique way. I always recommend Feed, but Burger Wuss is also hilarious.

I had the pleasure of working with him for the Sixteen anthology (“The Mud and Fever Dialogues” defies simple description, but I’ll try: It’s Socratic-style teen angst) and in addition to being an exceptional author, he’s also a thoughtful and genuinely nice guy.
